Yeah…pictures…

Since my last post, the McCord Air Force base has had their Air Expo, and Paul Allen has had yet another flying day at the Flying Heritage Collection.

I would normally put something slightly humorous here to accompany the photos, but I really can’t work up any “give a shit” right now. That’s probably a clue that I shouldn’t post at all, but then there’s that ”give a shit” problem…

Yeah, it’s been a while.

One of the unfortunate side effects of procrastination is that the amount of work you need to do in one sitting increases. A perfect example is my complete failure to post about the Flying Heritage Collection, the Gathering of Warbirds at Olympia, and the Flying Heritage Collection Part Two. Since I neglected to post about these events right after they happened, I now have to post about all three events all in one post. That’s a lot of typing and a lot of pictures to go through. Nevertheless, it has to be done and I shall commence to doing it now.
First up is the Flying Heritage Collection’s first flying day on June 14th. For those of you that may not know, the Flying Heritage Collection is a private collection of aircraft kept in flying (as the name implies) condition and most are flown regularly. Now based at Paine Field, you can wander through the hanger and get a real good history of the aircraft and why they were important to aviation. The aircraft flying on the 14th were the P-51D mustang “Upapa Epops”, and the P-47D “Tallahassee Lassie”. Both of which are restored to as close to their WWII configuration as possible.

It’s really fantastic to see these aircraft in the air, and it’s even better to know that the FHC will continue to acquire more aircraft.

My next show was the “Gathering of Warbirds” in Olympia. This show is a great starter to the airshow season, and my personal favorites, the Graneys, always do a great show here.

Naturally, the next weekend saw me back up at the Flying Heritage Collection, this time watching the Supermarine Spitfire and the Fieseler Storch

Really, photos don’t do the Storch any favors. It’s really amazing to see this aircraft in slow flight, as well at its short take off and landing capabilities.

As I type this, Oshkosh is in full swing, and my former coworkers at Microsoft Flight Simulator are blogging off and on. Mike has a really good feature on the ATC guys working the Fisk arrival. You should also stop by Owen’s blog to when you get a chance.
