Print & frame my art at Imagekind...

Incoming

So I pushed the send button yesterday and ordered my Canon 30D. It’s a bit scary to chuck a wad o’money the size a small child at what is essentially a semi-professional hobby. With lenses and extras (not to mention the extras I still have to pick up) I’m quite a bit in the hole for my new endeavor, and I haven’t even begun to take any photographs worth a damn. Still, it’s all so terribly exciting right now.

I still have to talk to a couple of CFIs I know about how much it would cost me to have them fly me around. It is a terrible shame, but there is no way I’d be able to fly an airplane and take good shots at the same time. Of the two pilots I have in mind, only one owns his own aircraft and I’m not sure it has a window that I can open to take shots out of. I’m sure any number of FBOs (fixed base operators aka. Aircraft rentals) would be willing to charter, but that gets mighty expensive mighty quick. Since I’m self financing my first project that really isn’t an option.

IT’S ALIVE!

The web site that is.

I’m all a twitter ’cause now I can expect spam and spam and more spam to come rolling my way. Isn’t life Spam-o-licious?

So it’s fairly basic right now, and I don’t have any thing to sell to the masses thereby securing fame, fortune and new camera equipment. But it is up and readable. Next step is the super secret project that is likely going to cost me lots of money with out return. I’ll just whisper myself to sleep, quietly repeating “I’m not doing it for the money.”

Sometimes that works.

Not Yet

No site yet, I have got the style sheet sort of working and have picked out the photos, but haven’t had time to write content. My grandmother is falling ill, so I was in Idaho with the family this weekend. With luck, grandma will get stronger and I’ll get the gumption to write some pages.

 We’ll see…

Flying today

I’m off to Hoquiam today for a late lunch – early dinner. Me and the Lovely wife will be taking off around 2:00pm-ish and getting to HQM around 3:00-3:15. The Restaurant closes at 4:00 today, so I hope service is quick.  The folks at 100 dollar Hamburger have given Lana’s Hangar Cafe very good reviews, so it should be a fun way to get a decent dinner. even if it’s going to cast a bit more than 100 bucks.

I’m planning on bringing the Lovely Wife’s less crappy digital (not to be confused with my crappy digital) camera and I’ll see if any good pix happen. This will be my first trip to HQM, so I might be to busy flying to snap pictures. But since I’m thinking of this sort of thing as a business, I should probably make the effort.

Main site still not up.

But I hope to have something by the end of next week. I’ll hopefully be offering  some photography services and have a few photographs I’ve taken for sale. Not being a web master or anything, I’ve been hacking HTML and JAVA together to at least come up with an approximation of a viewable site.

Get Your Feed Here

I turned off RSS for the old site. It was getting hit by a bot of some kind that was killing my stats tracking. (2000 hits a day on RSS. Quite a jump for the 10 or so I normally got.) But RSS is all good here, so get your feed on.

I’ve also got the main site almost sorta matching the blog, which is nice. I’m also going over all my old pictures and deciding which few are worthy of display. Since I’m just now transitioning from film to digital, (Update for the kiddies, Uncle Roy wants a Canon 30D instead of the 20D) I’ll have to use my crappy scanner to convert the 4x6s I have stuffed into shoe boxes.

Move Completed.

Out with the old and in with the new. I’ve transferred all the interesting stuff from my old blog to here and every thing seems to be going fine. I’m not sure if I like the theme I’ve got going currently so you might see a bit of fluctuation every now and then. Other than that, keep checking back to see if the main site is up. I’m hoping to at least have a rudimentary site up in a few days and a nice working site where I can sell my photography and photographic services in a few weeks. Maybe when Hal’s Family Aircraft is flying he’ll call for some air-to-air pix. (Don’t worry Hal, I’ll con Mike into doing the flying.)
