First Flight

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a car! It’s the Transition! Them wacky guys (MIT grads and pilots, a winning combination of intellect and crazy) at Terrafugia have designed, built and now flown the Terrafugia Transition, what is described as a “roadable aircraft.” The transition can fold up it’s wings and drive down the road at freeway speeds. How cool is that?

On the 5th of March, the Transition took to the air for the fist time and is now undergoing flight (and road) testing.

I can hardly wait to see one of these pull off the road, lower the wings and, take off. Naturally from an approved airfield, we pilots are responsible folk.

You can get all the info, more photos and a couple of vids at the Terrafugia web site.

P.S. Price tag? A bit less then what I paid for my house. YIKES!

A Hero Passes

It is with much sadness that I report the passing of Colonel Donald Blakeslee, commander of the 4th fighter group during WWII.

I never had the opportunity to meet Colonel Blakeslee, but I was proud to be a member of the virtual 4th FG and I know he appreciated our efforts to keep the memory of what he accomplished alive.

WWII Ace Stories

Congratulations to…

Food guy, motorcycle guy and airplane guy, Alton Brown.

Newly minted Private Pilot.

If I was smarter, better looking and more talented, we could be twins.

Well crap….

Arthur C. Clarke died today.

Major suckage. One of the best science fiction writers that ever lived and an icon of my youth.

The books were WAY better than the movies.

You should read them.

Happy Darwin Day!

Yes, I’m talking to you.

It was 72 years ago today…

…Sargent Douglas tought the …somthing…somthing…

OK, so the Beatles are better lyricists than I am. Who woulda thought? It was 72 years ago today, December 17th 1935, that the Douglass DC-3 first flew over the skies of California. The DC-3 remains one of the best known and loved aircraft in history.

Although the Boeing 247  is often considered the first true airliner, no one can argue with the DC-3s success, especially since that DC-3 is still in commercial service today. While I have never flown in a DC-3, I hope to someday. Preferably up front.

So here is to the great DC-3. Long may she fly.

Pat and Rudy sittin’ in a tree…

I have been known to occasionally mention Pat Robertson in this blog. I admit, I was just looking for an excuse to do so again.

I was not likely to vote for Rudy Giuliani, but yesterday’s announcement that My Good Buddy Pat has endorsed his candidacy for president has certainly sealed the deal. You see, Pat is a nutjob, a raving looney, and a jack ass. None of which makes his endorsement a shiny golden feather to be placed in the cap of a presidential candidate. I’m not really one to devote too much time to presidential politics this early in the race, but I now have narrowed the field a bit in my mind.

I was probably going to vote democrat anyway…maybe.
